NC man killed by his stepfather is in the same prison

JACKSONVILLE, NC – According to one Miami injury lawyer, a man who police said was shot by his stepfather was in the same prison with him after discovering agents arrest warrants against the victim. The police told the Jacksonville Daily News 37-year-old Richard Hayes shot his son-in-law Thursday night.

The 21-year-old Michael Bass was holding a bloody towel to his abdomen when paramedics arrived, said his stepfather shot him.

Deputies then discovered Bass warrants for failure to appear in court and took him to jail after being treated and released from hospital.

Police said Hayes told investigators he had pain in my neck and shot his son-in-law because he thought Bass wanted to fight against him.

The men remain in prison. He did not know if they have lawyers.
