Severe damage can also be caused by closed head injuries. Concussion is the most common and happens when the brain is shaken or banged against the hard skull. This can cause a range of symptoms. Most concussions heal within a few days but for some people the effects can be devastating and last for weeks or months resulting in loss of income and quality of life.
Contrary to popular belief there is no reason to keep a person who has suffered a head injury awake. If a child or adult falls asleep let them. Try to rouse them after about 30 minutes. If they do not wake this can indicate that there has been damage and you should seek medical attention. The main thing is to keep monitoring a person for 24 hours as some head injuries can take that long to manifest themselves.

Suffering any kind of head injury is always a concern as it can have long lasting if not permanent consequences. Look for any signs of change in behavior in someone who has incurred a head injury. It is not necessary for someone to lose consciousness to have a serious head injury.

Even quite mild head injuries can result in medical bills and loss of income. If you believe someone else may have been either partly or fully responsible for your own or a family member’s head injury it may be worth consulting a competent personal injury lawyer.
