So what happens when a child wanders over into the neighbor’s yard and gets bitten by the neighborhood dog? Well without referencing scenes from ‘The Sandlot’, the pet owner can potentially be liable for the bite. Missouri law used to dictate a policy where, ‘the first bit is free’ since many owners would have no way of determining their dog to be dangerous less they performed the act. Now the law has become much more strict and hold owners liable.
One interesting tip that Brown and Crouppen provide in this segment is that your home owner’s insurance policy may in fact cover any lawsuits as a result of your dog biting someone – this of course depending on the history of individual dog as well as the breed itself. Kudos to Missouri for having a much firmer stand on dog owner’s liabilities. Having a dog at home has its responsibilities and dog owners are expected to know theirs. Props for Missouri for imposing a stricter law regarding this. Dog owners should be vigilant and responsible to avoid any untoward incident that may be caused by their dogs. I for one have made precautionary measures to keep my dog safe and safe with others, investing in dog training is a must. But then again you can never be sure, right?

I have been lurking thats profound blog for quite sometime now and have really found the posts informative and interesting, this post is one of the many I love most. I have 3 beautiful dogs at home and have thought of ways to protect them and people who might visit our home. Accidents can always happen so I think about that too.
