Texans charged with a criminal offense often refer to cite the above video when meeting with their criminal defense lawyers in Austin. Still today, the question remains if the two officers involved in the police chase were indeed required to use deadly force in order to nullify the criminal. If you look closely in the video above and the reflection on the police cars near the end, you can see the use of firearms right after the criminal pulled a handgun from his motorcycle.
Playing with fire in San Francisco

A great piece on 60 minutes last night spoke of the San Francisco Bay Bridge and the potentially devastating impact on the bay area if an earthquake were to strike. According to the segment, the two fault lines in the earth directly below the Bay Area are supposed to cause and earthquake every 140-150 years; the area’s last earthquake was nearly 140 years ago. The segment really honed in on the worry-free approach to getting a new bridge built that could withstand an earthquake. Apparently this plan had gone into place in 1990, is still have yet to be completed after 20 years of bureaucratic delays.

Judge Judy questions some recipients of social security disability on whether or not they should qualify to receive such benefits. Apparently the first recipient should have acquired better disability lawyers as he claims the government doesn’t care if someone on social security collects cash on top of their monthly payments to supplement their income.

A colleague of mine, AJ Byrum, pointed this story out to me the other day which had originally aired on the National Geographic Channel. Apparently a local metal detectorist in Britain’s midlands came across Anglo-Saxon treasure in the middle of a farm field. Who lays claim to this treasure? It’s rights? It’s monetary value? Turns out the landowner as well as the finder each were awarded a finder’s fee claim of the share.
Creepy Tiger Woods Commercial

Nike golf just released a new Tiger Woods commercial that quite possible could be the creepiest commercial I’ve ever seen on TV. Did Nike really need to bring up the whole Tiger Woods scandal fiasco ahead of this weekend’s Masters? Not only is this commercial very creepy, but I think it makes Tiger look even worse.
If anything, Nike should have replayed last year’s Tiger commercial, which remains one of my favorite commercials of all time: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTuk5Uloyjg
My Cousin Vinny Criminal Defense Video Clip

While watching a court room video clip from one South Carolina criminal lawyer, I could not help draw a parallel between him and a scene from My Cousin Vinny; a classic court room comedy starring Joe Pesci. The prosecuting attorney is the character in the movie that prompted me to make the connection, however I couldn’t help but be reminded of the priceless scene above.
The San Diego Runaway Toyota Prius Scare was a Hoax!

We all have undoubetly been made aware of the recent Toyota recalls as a result of sudden acceleration problems with some of their latest car models. One Toyota accident lawyer makes the argument that whether claims have been made as a hoax or not, it has severely damaged the company’s brand image here in the United States market and certainly around the world.
A few weeks ago, major news corporations surrounded the story of one San Diego man and his claim of sudden acceleration with his Toyota Prius. The man had been quoted saying,
“I pushed the gas pedal to pass a car and it did something kind of funny,” Sikes said at a Monday press conference. “It jumped and it just stuck there. As it was going, I was trying the brakes … It wasn’t stopping.”
Fox Business is now reporting this claim to be a hoax,… Read the rest
